I admit it: My number one first-world problem is finding waterproof and windproof clothes that are stylish. When we lived on a sailboat, it was an everyday challenge, and now that I only go out on the fishing boat a few times a season, it still is. Mainly because I want to snag great pics for y’all when I’m out there β shout out to my POCFs!
Below are items that are functional AF but give you room to make it your own. (Iβve added affiliate links to the products below. That means, as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.) Bonus that you can wear the following on water or land, too! I wear a bathing suit with loose cotton pants and a button-up linen shirt to hide from the sun for warmer weather boating. (And I usually buy items like that at thrift or consignment stores so I won’t wig about getting it dirty β won’t cost much to replace!) Remember, the water is always colder, especially in the early morning and when the sun goes down, commercial fishing boats seem to take things up a notch. Don’t get caught stranded.
- Pack a backpack to keep extra layers if it gets colder or to store layers when it warms up. Keep your water, snacks, wallet, seasickness remedies, etc., in there as well, so all your belongings are contained in one small space and out of the way.
- Studs or no earrings. Dangly earrings can get hooked or caught on Lord knows what. Yikes!
- Bandanas are great for keeping the cold wind off your neck and adding that extra spark of personality when needed.
- If you like to wear makeup on the water (I do to feel more “girly”), waterproof eyeliner or mascara is key to stay put for random selfies. π
- Polarized sunglasses are the best, but I usually wear cheap aviators for my “lewk” and call it a day.
Hope you enjoy the list below! I would love to hear your thoughts and must-haves in the comments section. And if you haven’t yet, catch up on the Diary of a POCF series Hereβs a link to chapter 1: The Goodbye
